I have been on this planet some 25,900 +/- days. I would say that over 50% of them have heard me screaming into the void, at God or whatever is out there, to reveal themself to me. The void does not answer. I am not an atheist. However, I am honest enough to say 'I don't know'. It is quite obvious to me that something happened. Science calls it 'The Big Bang'. Religion calls it God and creation, by many names. For all I know, 'The Big Bang' could have been God saying 'Let there be light'. I don't know, however, I fully admit it is quite obvious something occurred, and here we are. I have been told that God will reveal Himself through His word. I have probably read the KJV Bible more times than most church goers. This is not me being a braggart. This is me trying to find some morsel of understanding and/or truth, and to be quite frank, it does not make logical sense to me. One of the first thing I am met with when I ask Christians these things is 'The ways of God are foolishness to man'. I am not bothering everyone here with long paragraphs of questions because I think it's foolishness. If I thought it were foolishness, I wouldn't give it a second thought, and I'd be on my way. Even as a wee lad, I have had this insatiable lust to know all I could know about this universe around me. It cannot be denied that it works with precision, logic, and order. Each piece interlocking and dependent of the other. I would expect that if a God created this universe, that He must be a God of logic, reason, and order. Yet I find nothing that indicates logic, reason, and order. RE: Greetings! When I read the post above however, some thoughts came to me that may or may not be helpful for you. Growing up with abusive parents make a little child internalize their behaviour. Subconsciously we carry these things with us and whenever an authority, be it God or a boss, we wear these glases of the past without knowing it. I discovered only recently how true that is in my life. You can read Psalms 136 a hundred times and you will have read "His kindness is eternal" 2.600 times. This should be enough for an ordinarily intelligent person to get the point. Nevertheless there is this inexplicable feeling of cold, mistrust, and the urge to run away. The intellect does not reach the emotional and spiritual (unconscious) sphere of the human being. I had to go to that God that I mistrusted (to put it mildly) and tell him: I think you are evil and unpredictable. That is what brought me relief. It's an ongoing process and brings more freedom step by step. RE: Greetings! I come in peace as an Unbeliever/Seeker - irmadlad - 08-07-2026 RE: the questions you have layed out are far too many for me to think about at once I understand. I don't know the answers either, which is why I ask them. But I understand that others have work, school, family, etc, and might not have the disposable time I have as a retired person. RE: Growing up with abusive parents make a little child internalize their behaviour Well, yes. Years of therapy helped with that. My background, being what it is though, has spurred me on to find the answers I was punished for asking. RE: This should be enough for an ordinarily intelligent person to get the point. But it isn't. All gods are claimed to be kind and good. At least, I know of none that claim otherwise. I realize speaking with a person such as I can be tedious at best. My beloved wife can give you all the confirmation you need of this fact. I realize that you are convinced, and I respect that conviction. I just haven't reached that moment of epiphany. Again, I sincerely thank you for taking your time to comment and thank you for your patience. |
