Im curious...the 200 years the Jews were in Egypt and then the 40 years before going up to Israel and then the 1st exhile in Babylon---were these lessons to the Jewish people on how to keep  to their faith centuries later when they were obliged to live in Galat?

Hi

Due to the Passover Holiday that just finished Chabad.org has been inundated with emails--thank you for your patience.

Jews are commanded in the Torah to educate our children in Torah. In Judaism the knowledge of Torah and what G-d gave us to do is not just reserved for the elite and the clergy, rather twice in the credo of the Jewish faith known as the Shema we speak of the importance of teaching Torah to our children.

This past Holy Days of Passover also revolves around the children and teaching them about G-d miracles in taking us out of Egypt.
When Jewish children go to Jewish schools which tech Judaism's values and practices, and they end up associating more with Jews who share these values and practices, then the intermarriage rates are almost negligible.
Please see https://www.chabad.org/4028110 about Jewish education.
Please don't hesitate  to write back if you have questions.

to Prevent assimilation...
https://aish.com/assimilation-causes-and-solutions/

3/7/2024 As in question No 11 about the Lapid goverment refusing to teach the Torah..I made a identical query to  Rabbi question/responce [Ask the Rabbi of Rabbonim of the Bais Hora'ah] -
In 2022 an english language Jewish newspaper ran a amazing article -that the Lapid govt textbooks have excised Jewish history including mention of the 2d Temple and even the Maccabean Revolt...if they succeded in teching Jewish people no knowledge of the Torah....how can they practice Jews if they neather beleive or remember who or what they are? It would be ironic if Jews in galat know Jewish History from Adam and Eve to the Present -rather than Jews who Live in Israel but do not know the life of the Torah? Now is this a challenge for the torah/Orthadox parties to sav e the Jewish spark in Jewish lives from being killed by secular-moderism by teaching all who wish to know what is to be Jewish by openly teaching the Torah/Talmud/Oral law to them?

when the answer comes I will place it here:
3/7/2024
"Hello
You are very correct. Unfortunely there are times when the Jewish Goverment, run by certain anti-religious people will apt to teach Jewish kids Arab and Chinese history, but not the full Jewish one. It is sad. another unfortunate fact is that the religious parties are often too busy trying to defend themselves, from an onslought of anti religious legislature, to be able to get involved in the curriculam of the secular schools. Additionaly there is not much we can do about the secular school system, the orthadox do have alternative school systems. They offer, that any secular person that wants to give has child an education that contains Jewish values. can do so for free. Their are many secular families that have started sending their children to such schools, as they realize that these school give their children a value based scholastically advanced level of education.

Best wishes"

Note will send off 3 queries to different Ask the Rabbi today
in two parts: When Moses at the L-d direction lead the 1st Exodus from Egypt only about 20% of Jews left--does the Torah explain why did the other 80% refuse to leave?  Also starting with the Shoah of 80 years ago of Jewish Communites in Europe and continuting with the exodus to Israel of 90% of Jews in Arab/Muslin lands--is this present day exodus seen by devout Jews as a forerunner in the coming of the anointed one?

Hi ,

What great questions!

The answer to your first question can be found in Midrashic teachings such as Shemos Rabbah, Targum Yonason, Tanchuma, and Sefer HaYashar. In short, there were millions of Israelites who had collaborated with the Egyptians and gained much power and wealth. As such, they didn't want to leave. This is alluded to in Rashi's commentary on the verse that describes the plague of darkness (Exodus 10:22 https://www.chabad.org/9871).

The second question is much more complicated and there are various viewpoints that range from one extreme to the other. The Talmud (Megillah  17b https://www.chabad.org/5447990) uses the term 'Ischalta d'Geula' to describe events that signal the commencement of the redemption. The context of the Talmudic discussion is the redemption on an individual level, however, the term is also used to refer to the redemption on a national level. The debate among "devout Jews" is how we interpret the events of the past 80 years.

Maimonides teaches in Mishneh Torah, Melachim uMilchamot - Chapter 11 https://www.chabad.org/1188356, the events that must happen for us to know with certainty that redemption has begun and is complete. May it be speedily in our times!

Please feel free to respond with any further questions or comments you may have.

All the best,

Rabbi Dov Stein

Dear

Thank you for contacting us. Our Rabbis explain to us that the 80 percent were so entrenched into their reality and culture of Egypt that they simply lost the will to leave. Regarding the current reality, yes, most traditional Jews view the current return to the land as the forerunner to our ultimate redemption.

What is so incredibly scary as how pervasive and relevant this statistic is to modern Jewry. Accounts over the entirety of Jewish history in the diaspora point to a very similar percentage of people who assimilate and effectively abandon Judaism. As the Pew study of 2013 so horrifically indicates, the number of Jews who are apethetic towards Judaism and don't even identify in any substantial way as Jews is staggering. Moreover, the enormous reality and pervasiveness of intermarriage, as well as it's acceptance, is truly an existential threat to Judaism. Judaism, for the majority of Jews, is something detached from their lives and their concern.

We must all ensure that, to the degree possible, we recognize Judaism's centrality in our lives and inspire others to realize this as well.

RE: ASk the Rabbi Query... - COmentator - 08-01-2024

Today I wrote to Ask A Rabbi at Chabbad and Aish Torah_
i CAME ACROSS THIS PASSAGE IN THE LIFE OF uZZIAH: He was buried in a separate grave "in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings" (2 Kings 15:7; 2 Chronicles 26:23). "That lonely grave in the royal necropolis would eloquently testify to coming generations that all earthly monarchy must bow before the inviolable order of the divine will, and that no interference could be tolerated with that unfolding of the purposes of God..." (Dr. Green's Kingdom of Israel).

Hello

Thank you for your question about King Uzziah's life and burial. His story serves as a powerful cautionary tale about the danger of Pride and disobedience to G-d, even for those who start out well.
Uzziah's initial success and properity as king of Judea led to pride and overconfidence, causing him to rebel against G-d's established order by entering the temple to burn incense, a task reserved only for priests. This act of disobedience  resulted in G-d striking him with leprosy, forcing him to live in isolation for the rest of his life.
The manner of Uzziah's burial reflects the consequences of his actions:
-He was buried in the burial field belonging to the kings, indicating he retained his royal status.
-However, he was not placed in the actual tombs with his ancestors but in a seperate grave.
-The reason given was "for they said, 'He is a leper", showing the last stigma of his punishement.
Uzziah's story teaches important lessons:
-Success and strength can lead to pride if not tempered by humilty and obedience to G-d.
-No one is above G-d's law, regardless of position or past accomplistments.
-The effects of sin can have lasting impacts, even beyond one's lifetime.
For more information of King Uzziah's life and legacy, please vist:
