YouTube Videos about Hasidic Jews - searchinmyroots - 12-22-2020

I thought these videos were done quite well and shows a good inside look at some of the Hasidic Jewish neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Monsey, NY.

There are 8 in total, I watched them all.

If you have some time, watch them and let me know what you think.

They are actually featured on AISH as well!

Thank you for posting. I'm really enjoying these videos. Especially like the little kid's viewpoint on life. Reminds me of Think Like a Monk by Jay Shetty.

I watched five of the videos in a row. Thanks for posting the playlist.

Wasn't much that I was unaware of, but I wasn't aware that we had the Chaverim service in Israel. That's definitely something I'm going to look into.

You are very welcome!

I thought they are pretty inspiring and give a good look inside as to what most media would not promote.

My Mom reviewed books for the local newspaper when I was growing up so she had a pretty good library, which I would also devour. In high school I started reading all of her Chaim Potok novels, which I absolutely loved. Then I moved on to Elie Wiesel, whose so very profound books still haunt and enchant me to this day. So I have some very basic familiarity with, and a great love for, the Hasidic culture. I used to consider converting to Judaism, and even spoke with a lovely Chabad rabbi, but ultimately decided, out of respect, that I will always be an outsider, and do not necessarily believe in God anyway. I don't actively disbelieve in God, but, as my agnostic grandfather used to say, "How can finite human minds even begin to understand the Infinite?" I hope for God even if I don't really believe. Anyway, let me just say that I love and respect the Hasidim, even if from a distance, nonetheless a distance that seems very intimate and profound.

Thank you for sharing that Rob.

Yes, once one can see how it is "inside" their world, bad stereotypes may disappear.

Of course no community is perfect and they mention that several times in the video. What is also mentioned many times is the need for improvement.

Most seem to have an "inner peace" that helps them with life.

Something we all could use right now!

And who ever thought teenage boys would be tending to the animals!!

Thank you Searchinmyroots,

I am enjoying the links, and find the Hasidic community refreshing and vibrant. The interview has been presented as straightforward and honest.  A very healthy and happy group that appear to understand what is essential and meaningful for the community to thrive.
