Warsaw was leveled pretty bad from bombing and then the Soviets finished it off from the ground, after the National Socialists were driven back westwards. My then mother-in-law who was Polish told me that the Poles should have just allowed the German army transit towards the Soviet Union, instead of posing resistance, after having visitted Paris for the first time.
