Innocent People
#11

In the story of God meeting with Abraham before turning to destroy Sodom, Abraham asked a just question that rings in my ears every time I consider questions likes this: "Shall not the judge of the whole earth do what is just?" (הֲשֹׁפֵט֙ כָּל־הָאָ֔רֶץ לֹ֥א יַעֲשֶׂ֖ה מִשְׁפָּֽט) Does God hear the cry of the innocent? If so, what keeps him from acting on their behalf? I struggle with this question above any other.

It's oft quoted when this question arises, but I don't think it doesn't any justice to the child who has just died of cancer.

I've drawn comfort from the Genesis verse as a reminder that G-d is in control even when people, leaders,  make bad decisions that can have adverse effects on others.

Yes, Joseph is said to have gone through a hard time, having been sold into slavery, falsely accused of attempted rape, locked away in a prison, etc. But his story continues and we see that the hand of God caused him to have success. It's not comparable enough to children in a cancer ward. Where does their story have a happy ending? Does God show favorites?

You're not an outsider here. <3
