General: Righteousness

The Scriptures say:

Ecclesiastes - Chapter 7

20 For there is no righteous man on earth who does good and sins not.

Yet the Scriptures also say that Abraham and Noah were righteous for instance.

How do you explain this?

Thank you.

If I'm not mistaken, to be righteous does not mean to be perfect. It has to do with how you respond to when you fall.

That's why Proverbs 24 says a righteous man falls 7 times but rises.

What's more confusing to me, is what Luke says about John the baptizer's parents -

1:6 (KJV)
And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

I don't think the Hebrew bible ever says being righteous is to be blameless.

Righteous certainly does not mean sinless.

Perhaps it means to be blameless in striving.

1 Kings 15:5

For David had done what was right in the eyes of the LORD and did not turn aside from anything the LORD commanded all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
