As a countermeasure (as cited above), there have been some public invitations to wear kippot in solidarity and people were very eager to do so. So, for a short while, people were eager and attended demonstrations to proclaim solidarity, but since the Al-Quds-demonstration here in Berlin has been over, the public is silent again. As much criticism as the warning got, at least it brought the issue into the eyes of the public and people were outraged. Until they kind of forgot to be outraged again.

By the way, today, after having frequented my university nearly daily since 2012, first as a student and now for work, I have seen the very first student wearing a kipah. One person in seven years. This is how visible Judaism is in Germany.

That's true!   I was upset as I wrote it since there had been another case in the news that day (two rabbinical representatives were spit at and threatened by one man), but it is important to acknowlegde the positives, too. We also had recently a "long night of religion" where Synagogues along with other houses of worship opened their doors and offered a public program.  I hope that actions like this at least help promote respect and understanding.
