I never heard of him either although the name does sound familiar.

Did he still play or was he retired?

Soccer isn't as big a sport here in the US as it is in the rest of the world.

Not a fan of soccer and really don't keep up with sports at all. There are probably lots of famous sports figures I've never heard of, especially ones from outside the US.

I know near to nothing about sports. People in Israel are crazy about soccer ("football"), but I've never gotten into any type of sport at all. Had never heard of this guy, but many were upset at his passing.
