I'm looking through Rabbi Fohrman's book The Exodus You Almost Passed Over. It picks up only portions of the Joseph story in his younger years towards the back.   Did he write another book you may be looking at?

YES!!

He has 2 newer books out -

And if I'm not mistaken, another on the way!

I'm guessing he will have one for each of the 5 books of Moses.

I must buy it then!  Ever since reading his first book and listening to him with Rabbi Singer that one time made him a favorite. He inspires me to stay with the Hebrew and I've become rusty.  Love his pattern finding and the way he thinks.

Thanks so much!  I like the first one - Genesis/בראשית - A Parsha Companion.

You are very welcome Dana, glad I was able to recommend some inspiration!

Yes, Rabbi Forhman has a unique way of diving into the Hebrew of the text and coming up with some thoughts that may seem strange. But he usually ties it in with the writings of the Sages and why they thought the way they did.

It amazes me all of the connections throughout the Tanach that aren't obvious but require deep study to reveal.

And they are just that, thoughts, no one is saying you have to believe it to be true.

The Parsha from 2 weeks ago had a connection between Jacob and Esther. It relates to the only 2 times the phrase "a great and bitter cry" is used.

Oops, better not give away any more information as I forgot you want to read it for yourself!!

And I want to thank you for staying with us for all of the time you have (despite the few bumps in the road we've had every once in a while), it is a pleasure to have you as one of our participating members who contributes to making this forum the success it is.

I look forward to understanding the connection of the two times a "great and bitter cry" was given. With Mordechai, he had received the news that the king sent out a decree for the annihilation of the Jewish people, and Mordechai responded with the rending of the garments and the loud and bitter cry.  The other story I thought it may have been when Jacob lost Rachael or the time he thought Joseph was dead. But Esau??  He sold his birthright for it had no meaning to him so why a loud and bitter cry now??  In addition, the Hebrew adds for Esau עד-מאד exceedingly to his bitter cry.

I prefer to purchase the book form which is a little more than kindle for this kind of material. I'm retired now so I'd like to get signed up for Rabbi Fohrman's Aleph-Bet website with the added time I have.

Thank you Searchinmyroots for your participation as well!  I've read and learned more from the many book recommendations and perspectives given here. Hebrew Cafe - a forum home.
