Comment on Exodus 34:14 Jealous
#1
Exodus 34:14 Jealous

The Hebrew word for ( name שְׁמֹו ) can also be translated as (called or called upon.)

Exodus 34:14
You shall not bow yourself down to another god. For Yahwah whose is (called upon) is jealous, and is a jealous God.

A person who is “name-ed” is “called” and is “called upon.”
Yahwah has only one name and many titles.

The Hebrew word for "(name)" is Shem (שֵׁם), which is fundamentally tied to the verb Qara (קָרָא), meaning "to call," "to summon," or "to call out."
Therefore, when a person or thing is "named" in Hebrew, it is essentially being "called" or "called upon" by that designation.

Key Connections:
Shem (שֵׁם): Noun, meaning "Name" or "Reputation."
Qara (קָרָא): Verb, meaning "to call," "to summon," "to proclaim," or "to read."

In the Bible, naming is an action of calling upon someone's identity or purpose, hence a strong conceptual link between the two words.
