Well, yes, that does make sense.  And, because I'm a name nerd, I appreciate the aptness of the meanings of both Saul (as in, "You asked for it." LOL) and David ("beloved [of God]").

A question for you:  Doesn't the story seem just a little bit contrived, considering how coincidentally apt those two names are?     This is why I'm more inclined to view the Bible as metaphor than historic document.
