If I'm not mistaken, to be righteous does not mean to be perfect. It has to do with how you respond to when you fall.

That's why Proverbs 24 says a righteous man falls 7 times but rises.

What's more confusing to me, is what Luke says about John the baptizer's parents -

1:6 (KJV)
And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

I don't think the Hebrew bible ever says being righteous is to be blameless.
