I do understand that you are Jewish seeking to learn more about Judaism, and I believe these books will assist you because they are at a "beginners" stage and should be easier to read than the other book to which you referred:
i.
"To Be A Jew: A Guide To Jewish Observance In Contemporary Life",
Paperback – October 11, 1991,
by Hayim Halevy Donin.

On the webpage for each of those books, BELOW the image of the book:
click on the "Read sample" link,
it shows an image of the book - but wait for it to change to the preview mode,
then look for the small vertical scroll bar (top right - the scroll bar is really quite small) and scroll to other pages of the book (you may have to keep scrolling down some way to get to a sample of chapter text).
You can read some of each book and see if it appears to suit you!
