Exodus 20
#9
There were a couple points in the OP when I pushed off consulting ChatGPT for insight in my questions. They were questions on how to interpret Exodus 20:21 and Exodus 20:23, which are:

Exodus 20:21 Wrote:An altar of earth you shall make for Me, and you shall slaughter beside it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your cattle. Wherever I allow My name to be mentioned, I will come to you and bless you.

...and:

Exodus 20:23 Wrote:And you shall not ascend with steps upon My altar, so that your nakedness shall not be exposed upon it.

Well, since then, I have consulted ChatGPT. I won't draw out the highlights and philosophical quandries here in this thread, but instead just link you to the discussions:

Exodus 20:21

Exodus 20:23

I'll just note that ChatGPT points out an interesting solution to the problem I saw with a law instructing the clergy not to walk up the steps to an alter (lest their nakedness be exposed). They simply built ramps.
