Why do New Yorkers say “on line”? The expression is “in line.” You say “online” to refer to the internet, but you wait “in line” when there are other people ahead of you waiting for some service.

Actually, I've been saying "online" before there was an internet!

Maybe it's like saying "on a line" without the "a"?

Empty frozen food section, pasta aisle almost empty, butter gone, and of course the cleaning aisle empty. Reminded me of the old photos we used to see of communist Russia and it's empty shelves. People have gone insane. Now gun stores are having huge lines and selling out of ammo and firearms. I guess people want to protect their toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Absolutely looney tunes.

The things we're seeing on Facebook of people buying like twenty large packs of toilet paper (24 rolls in a pack × 20 packs = 240 rolls of toilet paper). I live with two roommates. Three men in an apartment, and I think a 12-pack of toilet paper lasts us two months. What in the world would people be doing with twenty packs?! They're lost their minds. All sense of reasonableness has gone out the window!

It should still be "in." Wink

"We stood in (the) line for twenty minutes before we gave up and left."

"If I ever have to stand in (a) line for more than half an hour, I just leave."

It's supposed to be "in." You know that I've spent a lot of time in New York, yeah? I never got used to that expression.

Starbucks: "Next on line, please."
Me: "Uh, it's next in line, and that's me. How are you?"

Yes, I did that more than once. LOL

I thought Governor Cuomo gave an excellent speech. Encouraging, calm and sensible words that inspire working together.

Our nutty governor is trying to shut down a lot of stuff. It's doing a lot of economic damage. Instead of concentrating on the general population, to me it makes more sense to limit the interactions of the vulnerable people with the public-the elderly. Don't let visitors into nursing homes or let residents out in the public. No visitors if they are in the hospital. Concentrate on isolating them. "Social distancing" young, healthy populations that are not a risk is idiotic, and it is going to cause untold economic damage.

I had minor surgery yesterday, and the doctor told me there was a chance the clinic would be forced to be closed. He told me it's possible that I might be on my own when it comes time to have the sutures removed in two weeks. Even suggested that if I have a friend who is a nurse I might want to see if she would do it! Absolute insanity!

Who said that young, healthy populations are not at risk?

More correctly, at much less risk.

Shabbat shalom, everyone stay healthy and hope everyone is tolerating their isolation (if that has been enacted by your state) well.
