Also, if I'm not mistaken, Micah 5 says the ruler over Israel shall arise from the clan of Bethlehem Ephrathah, not specifically be born in Bethlehem.

RabbiO, it's true that I'm not Jewish and therefore lack the Jewish perspective. I came across the passage in my daily reading and thought I could share a verse that describes the future and, for me, relates to the Messianic Age which is the topic of this thread.

"Behold, days are coming, says the Lord, and I will form a covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, a new covenant. Not like the covenant that I formed with their forefathers on the day I took them by the hand to take them out of the land of Egypt.

days are coming = Future time from the time of Jeremiah, so is with "I will form a convenant" . For what period of time does this verse then apply?

I'm just reading and don't make anything up, it's in your scripture.

Yes, born in Bethlehem Ephrata, and Bethlehem is mentioned first. Does this prophecy refer to the Messiah in Jewish tradition?

Hello BlueBird,

Yes, in Jewish tradition, this refers to the awaited Jewish messiah.

If I'm not mistaken, Bethlehem Ephrathah may be the name of the clan of people from that area. That would indicate the messiah is to be from that clan of people, not necessarily have to be born in Bethlehem.

Hello searchinmyroots,

thanks for your answer, that's interesting. So the prophecy wouln't be fulfilled if the person were born in today's town of Bethlehem, he has to be a descendent of the clan that originated in ancient Bethlehem. Can this be traced back after all these years?

Most likely yes, we should have genealogical tracings that go that far back. Don't forget, the Jewish people were very good at record keeping, just look at all of the genealogies in the Hebrew bible!

Everything is not so simple… Do not confuse emotions with reality, and do not take the movement of the heart for an accomplished truth. From the Most High, a person does not receive ready-made knowledge, clothed in words, norms, and rules. From above comes something else: an emotion, an impulse that must be received; an inner fire of meaning that still must be discerned and affirmed in words.

For what descends to a person is a divine sign: it does not give a completed form, but it indicates a direction for the mind. And only then does the human being—passing through soul, reason, experience, and time—turn this direction into thought, purify it through reflection, and only afterwards embody it in teaching, in speech, in scripture. Therefore the path of truth is often long: sometimes it stretches across centuries, passing through many luminous minds and pure souls, before it becomes clear, refined, and fit—like a concentrated essence—for its final embodiment in an idea capable of becoming a support for the world.

The Moshiach will come with an idea and a teaching. Yet the ground for His teaching does not arise by itself—it is prepared by giants. To see far, one must stand upon their shoulders. And those giants are already laboring today: they receive the signs from above in the form of emotions, they live through them, cleanse them of illusions, separate the true meaning from the accidental, and affirm it in the Word—so that the world may one day receive what must be spoken.
