Probverbs 23-strike a child with a rod?
#1
13Do not withhold discipline from a child; when you strike him with a rod, he will not die.
14You shall strike him with a rod, and you will save his soul from the grave.

Does this verse mean that we should hit a child with a rod (stick) as a means of discipline?

Thanks.

I would not think of it as a commandment. We don't get the commandments from the book of Proverbs. It is, rather, a piece of wisdom – that if you want to save your child's life, you will provide them with a framework of discipline. Those who grow up without discipline (in whatever form it takes) will have no limits to their misbehavior.

You shouldn't treat it literally. It is not a call to hit children.

I don't think hitting children works.  What does work is withdrawing privileges.

I agree with Jason....it is advice to not with hold discipline. It doesn't mean physically to beat a child. Discipline is not only to correct bad behavior, but also protects a child from dangerous situations.
