Trump had pushed back against Israel’s efforts to advance it also.

This would have effectively turned out to be a 3-state "solution", since a strictly Orthodox settlement would be added to a secular society and to a separate "Palestinian" one. This would essentially end up as an Israeli version of the Vatican City within Rome without all the celibacy. In which case, it wouldn't take long for this Orthodox ghetto (Sorry, my choice of word wasn't meant to be insultive) to suffer a housing shortage, if plans aren't made for evential territorial supplement.
Then there's the question of acceptance from the average Israeli tax-payer, during when the Orthodox community is already coming under fire for both military service- and tax exemption. As if the military there hasn't enough problems already: https://www.jta.org/2021/11/24/israel/le...r-new-poll ' Wrote:...“It is important to understand that, without retaining some form of the ‘people’s army’ model, Israel’s security cannot be guaranteed for the long term.”...
100 thousand million shekels for arabs
40 Million shekles for reform/seular Jews 6 Million shekels for cats Nothing for the Orthadox.....I wonder how much persuassion Bennet goverment needed to cancel a project that had already been approved Off? With this kind of attitude..the only thing Orthdox jews can do..is pool their resources....buy land near Jerusalem ....build their settelment....and thanks the L-d for his blessing....not the Bennet goverment.....

Actually under the original 1947 partition, it was in a way a 3-state "solution" as Jerusalem would have been a region within both countries. Under it the section of Sheikh Jarrah that's been in the media for decades would now be in Jewish hands as the original land deeds dating back to 1867 say it is.

You really need to use more mainstream media sources. Housing is needed for all citizens of the state of Israel and not one segment of it.
"The government unveiled the new plan just this week, setting a target of starting construction of 280,000 homes over the next four years — significantly more than in recent years — advancing plans for 500,000 more housing units, publishing tenders for 300,000 homes on state-owned land, and having 180,000 successful such tenders." https://www.timesofisrael.com/how-much-o...te-budget/ https://www.gov.il/blobFolder/policy/sta...2-file.pdf

Israel for all its problums is the only real democracy of the Middle east....as a Matter of Principle Bennet should have stood up to Biden....the Duties of the President of the United States do no include pressuring other countires to not build housing for their own citizens

It's not in the Jerusalem region. It sit's in Area C of the West Bank (~10 km north of Jerusalem border). The US has a say in construction there due to the OSLO agreement. The US is going to say what needs to be said based along similar lines on how Ma'ale Adumim came into existence. Israel doing what they did then is no way close to a way a democracy is supposed to act. |
