History of Israel
#1
I have found a copy of an old map showing the area that is now present day Israel. It refers to a time 1000 - 925 BC. There is no mention of Palestine, does anyone know if Palestine is a recent history concept?

Hello Christine and welcome to the forum.

Just to let you know, the first posts are moderated to help keep out spam and bots.

There are several answers to your question, depending on who you speak with.

From what I understand, when Rome kicked out the Jews, they them named the land something similar to Palestine, but there really never was a Palestine until modern days.

I'll let others chime in because I'm sure they have a lot to say if they haven't already. It's probably already answered on some of our other threads, I just have the time to look through them at the moment.

It was always used by Non-Jews to refer to the land of israel..aka Egyptians; Assyrians; Greeks. Romans. Muslins {Arab and Turk} the British  and lastly the United Nations.[the home of descendants of above]..for the record https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestine_(region)
Hope this answears your questions Cool

There are also some maps which follow the Roman attempted rename of the land of Israel to "Palestine", but it can be noted that although many such maps are entitled "Palestine" that label is not used for the land itself, but instead the names Judea and Samaria are used:
I found the following examples:

“Palestine” is the Roman-imposed rename of Israel / Judah, used by the Romans for attempting to negate Israel as the name for the land, and today used likewise by the “Palestinian” Arabs and their primarily anti-Semitic supporters.
The name “Palestine” applied only to foreign rule of the land of Israel, first by the Romans who imposed that name to negate Israel / Judah as names for the land, and later for the Mandate awarded to Great Britain between 1922 and 1948. The Romans had resurrected the name “Palestine” (Philistine) from the region much smaller than Israel, in which the then defunct Philistines had been. Both of those usages of the name were rule by a foreign imperial power. There has never been any indigenous “Palestine” / Arab sovereign state in the land of Israel.

I have researched the origins of the name "Palestine" (and my post also includes sources), here:
"Origins of the name “Palestine” and its usage in trying to negate the name Israel":
