  Life without GOD
Posted by: serviteur - 08-28-2019, 11:30 PM - Forum: Judaism General - Replies (8)

And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, so that you will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live." Deuteronomy 30:6

“A time is coming,” says the Lord, “when I will punish all those who are circumcised in body but not in spirit—  the Egyptians, Edomites, Ammonites, Moabites, the people who live in the desert in remote places,[ and yes, even the people of Judah. And like all these pagan nations, the people of Israel also have uncircumcised hearts.”Jeremiah 9:26

The day is coming,” says the LORD, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and Judah. This covenant will not be like the one I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand and brought them out of the land of Egypt. They broke that covenant, though I loved them as a husband loves his wife,” says the LORD.
“But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel after those days,” says the LORD. “I will put my instructions deep within them, and I will write them on their hearts." Jeremiah 31:31-33

GOD say that the old covenant was broken,How can a descendant of Abraham live without a covenant? How can a descendant of Abraham love His GOD with  all his heart, soul and strength without being circumcised in the heart? How can a person live without being circumcised in the heart?if being circumcised in the heart give  life what happen if you don't let the LORD circumcise your heart? GOD say the people of israel and jacob have uncircumcised in the heart, what about the warning at the beginning of Jeremiah 9:26?Where is the new covenant that is supposed to give a change of heart? Can GOD let his children uncircumcised for such a long time?

Was my Great Grandmother Jewish ?
Posted by: Niccc_ - 08-27-2019, 03:34 AM - Forum: Judaism General - Replies (3)

Hi everyone!
]I’m not Jewish myself, but there’s some things that have led my family to question if my great grandma on my moms side was Jewish and didn’t make it known for some reason.
I never met her, but my mom has told stories about her. My mom said she didn’t speak much English at all so my mom couldn’t communicate with her well. According to her documents and what not, she came here from Galicia, Ukraine. I’ve read about Galicia, Ukraine and it sounds like a lot of Jewish Ukrainians lived in this town. Not only that, but her maiden name was Bilik. According to google Bilik is a Jewish/eastern Ashkenazic surname. When she came to the U.S she moved to a town  (about 30 minutes away from me now) that was predominately a Jewish community/is still known around here as a town with mainly Jewish residents. My mom lived there for awhile and said a lot of her friends were even Jewish, but she wasn’t.
It seems like a lot of signs point to her being Jewish, but we don’t understand why she wouldn’t have made it known or maybe even hid it at that time. What could be the reason for her hiding being Jewish? Did people ever do this during this time in the world?
I don’t think I would be considered Jewish since I’m pretty sure the maternal side has to continue being Jewish/can’t break it in order to actually be Jewish (sorry I’m wording this horribly, I don’t know much about the subject). But yeah, I’m interested in everything you all have to say about this! Thank you.

Hi, I go by Moriel Fall.

And I'm one of those door knockers... sorry. But I am not at all here to preach, or challenge any Jewish viewpoints.  I spend most of my time in what you would call being a countermissionary, as I specialize in targeting trinitarians and trying to bring them back to the one true G-d, he that was, he that is, and he that will be.  (Which would be the only time I would bring up any greek scriptures, if anyone specifically wants countermissionary help.)

Unfortunately, Hebrew is an exceptionally difficult language for me, so I would really appreciate any help  people would be willing to give getting an accurate understanding of the texts.  I know I have quite a few questions, if people would be willing to teach me.  And, again, I'm very much not here to spread MY views.  Only to improve my understanding of Hebrew texts.  (Although I have a bit of a karaite mentality. I appreciate commentary, but hold the written texts above all else)

  Daniel 7:14's intent
Posted by: Moriel Fall - 08-17-2019, 06:47 AM - Forum: Counter-Missionary Forum - Replies (6)

Mainstream Christians interpret the "him/his" throughout verse 14 to be "The Son of Man" and interpret that to be Jesus.

Most jewish sources I've found also interprets verse 14 to refer to the "Son of Man" and interpret this to collectively be Israel.

But I've always read the "him" who will have eternal dominion to refer to the last "him" in the previous verse.  That regardless of whom this "Son of Man" represents, he would be brought before the ancient of days and return dominion over the earth to the ancient of days (the world to come).

Could I get some Hebrew expertise?  Is there a reason so many read the "him/his" to refer to the one(s) being brought BEFORE the ancient of days, rather than referring to the ancient of days himself?  Is there some grammatical intricacies to which I'm ignorant?

https://www.chabad.org/library/bible_cdo...pter-7.htm

Quote:13 I saw in the visions of the night, and behold with the clouds of the heaven, one like a man was coming, and he came up to the Ancient of Days and was brought before Him.

14 And He gave him dominion and glory and a kingdom, and all peoples, nations, and tongues shall serve him; his dominion is an eternal dominion, which will not be removed, and his kingdom is one which will not be destroyed.

Hello,

I was hoping you all could help me out.

I'm looking for some hebrew phrases about determination, perseverance, rising up, overcoming adversity, being a warrior.  Any of those messaged individually or some combination.

If you could share them here that would be awesome!

Thanks so much!

  Educate me on Judaism
Posted by: mbajohn1990 - 08-05-2019, 02:42 AM - Forum: Judaism General - Replies (9)

Back ground - (skip to next paragraph for main point) My mother was christian and my father is Israeli.  He converted to Christianity when he remarried when I was 17.  I never went to temple or church but identified as jewish until I was 20 until the pressures of living in a christian country (USA) resulted in me unofficially converting.  Then I became mentally ill at 21 and suffered from delusions until just two years ago which affected my beliefs as i switched back and forth frequently.  I am now 28 and am realizing that I decided to become christian because of my delusions.  Voices told me that I was damned for my (hallucinated) conspiracy to murder under Jewish law and that jesus would be more forgiving.  I reported myself to police many times and had been sent to the hospital promptly each time.  Essentially, I am at square one without much knowledge of Judaism besides a weak memory of skimming the old testament and I want to choose my religion based on theology.  Please only list biblical beliefs, I promise I am not here to speak about or support any other religion.  My replies will only be to probe further about the jewish theology.  I want to know about Judaism.

I was born to a christian mother by a jewish father and I want to learn about the jewish faith to make an educated decision.  I will not respond with comments comparing the religions, but only dive deeper into jewish theology.  I am particularly interested in beliefs regarding the afterlife.

If you read the intro and made it this far without thinking I am a troll, you will be happy to know that treatment has been so successful that I am now stabalized, able to hold a job, and am working on my phd!

  Movie recommendations
Posted by: a_Sarah - 08-04-2019, 07:29 PM - Forum: Hangout - Replies (20)

I just finished watching Ha Ushpizin. I hit play because I wanted to watch a Hebrew movie with subtitles for language learning, not knowing what the movie was about, and ended up really enjoying it (For those unfamiliar with it, it is about an orthodox couple facing unexpected trials on Sukkot, a bit like a religious fairy tale and a tad cheesy at times, but also humorous).

Do you have any recommendations for movies with Hebrew as the original language, with a similar theme? Or any other movies (either in Hebrew or with something to do with Judaism in the broadest sense, no matter the genre) you'd like to recommend? Smile

Take the hearts from a deck of cards and remove the face cards, leaving the A Heart  thru the 9 Heart , where A Heart  counts as zero.

Shuffle and deal out the cards to form a 10-digit number.

If the right-most (least significant) digit is odd, swap it with any even card.

The resulting 10-digit number will be a Chai, i.e., a multiple of 18.

Smile Shavua Tov ...
