| Non-Yeshivah paths to S'mikhah? |

Years ago Rabbi Zalman was discussing with me options for private rabbinic training. He passed from this world before any of that came to fruition. Since then, i have been putting that on hold while i obtained two masters and a PhD in Jewish-related studies. I am curious if there is a path to s'mikhah that doesn't involve moving and attending a yeshivah. I am 45 years old and have 7 children, so it would be a big change for all of them to up and move for more schooling. Anyway, any advice or pointing in the right direction is appreciated.

| Jesus and the Talmud |

I recently read a post about Jesus in the Talmud on a German Christian forum. I've heard something like this before and it confuses me. Here is the post in English (my translation, I hope it's correct):
I recently read the book "Jesus in the Talmud" by a Jewish religious scholar named Paul Schäfer. He seems to be a real expert on mentions of Jesus in the Talmud (commentary on the Torah inspired from a Jewish point of view).
I was - to put it mildly - shocked: Jesus is spoken almost exclusively in synonyms, one of which is the code name "Baalam", based on Bileam.
According to the Talmudic view, where is Jesus today? He is in the lowest hell, being boiled in human excrement and bodily fluids...
I would like to know which passages these are and why they are in the Talmud? Thanks.

The subject says it all: Who was the rabbi who "raised the dead" metaphorically by taking a man's son under his wing and making him a great Torah scholar - elevating the father's spiritual station as the progenitor of such a tzaddiq. I read this after the death of my wife and want to find the source again. If someone can find it i would greatly appreciate it. Reddit /r/judaism autodeleted the question for i dont know what reason, but like never allowed it to post. So just PMng people who might know someone who knows someone who might know
