Question Advices on increasing vocubulary
Posted by: Robis - 09-02-2020, 01:46 PM - Forum: Hebrew Language Forum - Replies (4)

In the past years, I, B''H managed to learn reading Hebrew, but I feel like I am stuck. I really need some resources to learn more and more words systematically. Are there any resources, I could learn new words from? I really want to be able to read Hebrew commentaries and listen to Hebrew speakers and understand them. I feel like I am very close to that, but I somehow need to massively increase my vocabulary. Also, I guess I am more into Hebrew of Tanakh, but not into modern spoken Hebrew.

I have also noticed, that the best way to learn words (also conjugations) is not to just remember them, but to read the text and frequently stumbling upon those words (active recalling, is that how you call it?).

Maybe there is some kind of a dictionary or something? E.g I read a commentary and don't know what a certain word means, how do I learn that word?
I know that there is a webpage Pealim, do you think it is good for such a purpose?

  Counting of the Omer?
Posted by: ImAHebrew - 08-30-2020, 06:05 PM - Forum: Judaism General - Replies (3)

Shalom Everyone, I have a question.  What proof is there that the counting of the Omer begins on the morrow after the High Day Shabbat (the 16th), other than tradition?  Blessings in The Name, ImAHebrew.

  Isaiah 53 Verse 10
Posted by: searchinmyroots - 08-30-2020, 02:43 PM - Forum: Counter-Missionary Forum - Replies (85)

I just want to confirm the meaning of the Hebrew word "asham" used in this verse.

From what I understand it means guilt and it is also related to the guilt offering, meaning the person is guilty of sin.

In this case, it is the servant.

If that is true, then how could any Christian possibly think Isaiah 53 is about Jesus?

The servant is guilty of sin, and Christian theology teaches Jesus was sinless.

Transliterating בֵּית as bies, בֵית as vies, and פֵא as fie
Posted by: squee100 - 08-29-2020, 01:44 AM - Forum: Hebrew Language Forum - Replies (4)

I would like to transliterate בֵּית as bies, בֵית as vies, and פֵא as fie. Going by this source: https://www.google.com/books/edition/HMYYRBOH_YDLYL_JYS_DMLM_or_Hebrew_and_En/KEYEAAAAQAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=hebrew+and+english+spelling+book&printsec=frontcover I believe that this would fit with the Polish-Jewish pronunciation of צֵירֵי as [aj], but I feel like I can't be sure until I have a direct source for transliterating them this way. What should I do? Are there any Polish-ancestry Jews on this forum who spell them that way?

  Please Help Me
Posted by: H1111 - 08-26-2020, 01:35 PM - Forum: Judaism General - Replies (4)

I feel like I am being targeted by demons and harrassed constantly. I feel like there are voices in my head that aren't mine and evil things are being done to me. I am not sure why or how this happened, and I am still unsure how to stop it .

Any suggestions are welcome.

I would love for you to pray for me and my situation and I will do the same for you.

Any more advice you can give, or if you would like to talk to me personally, please do. Thanks

Where can I buy Mahrwood comics?
Posted by: jayarem - 08-17-2020, 02:07 PM - Forum: Hangout - Replies (1)

I have been searching forever for Shmuel Hanagid in particular and other Mahrwood comics in general. I purchased Shmuel Hanagid in a Hebrew bookstore in Israel but it is censored (some illustrations and dialogue were cut) and the translation is horrendous Angry .

I would like to purchase the original English version but I cannot find them anywhere. There is only one part on Amazon (and it`s pretty expensive) and anywhere else it was out of stock or second hand.

Where can I buy Shmuel Hanagid online?
Also in general, is there an online Jewish book store you can recommend?

Thank you kindly,

  Transcription of האובליסק?
Posted by: Azalu - 08-12-2020, 09:17 AM - Forum: Hebrew Language Forum - Replies (7)

Hello everyone,

I hope I have found the right forum and category to place my question. I am writing on an essay about obelisks and as a part of it, I am talking about how obelisks are called in different old and new languages. I know that obelisks were called differentely in biblical Hebrew than today. In biblical Hebrew, obelisks were called מַצֵּבָה and today, 'obelisk' is translated as האובליסק by the online translator Glosbe.com.
My problem is that I cannot read the Hebrew writing and so I can't understand what the words really mean. It would help me a lot to have a transcription of the words in latin letters and I hope that someone in this forum can help me with that.

Thank you very much for you help!  Smile

Kind regards
Azalu
